"We are now in great danger" An appeal to the international community from Jonah Wenda, Sentani, West Papua. 23 July 2005 Introduction After arresting Jonah Wenda and Gunawan Sambena Inggeruhi on 1st July, the Indonesian intelligence organization (BIN), the Papua Police Commissioner and Military regional commander are working even harder to oppress the people of West Papua. By doing this they are escalating our demand for independence from Indonesia. The report Today I heard a report from a Papua Intelligence Service (PIS) officer about a meeting he had with a BIN officer in the Yasmin Hotel, Jayapura on 20th July 2005. The BIN officer of course did not know that he was meeting a PIS officer. During the meting the BIN officer asked many questions about whom Kwila Nungga Penggu (Jonah Wenda) is and where he was before leading the 1st July event and so on. They also asked about the preparations for 15th August. What will happen on that day? Will the West Papuans proclaim their own government? Who is the leader of the protest? The PIS officer replied that the 15th August event will be a peaceful protest rejecting the Act of Free Choice 1969 as a fraud and calling for Freedom Peace and Justice in and independence West Papua. According to the PIS officer's report there are now 3000 Indonesian intelligence personnel operating in all areas of West Papua. They are spreading false news and provoking the people to raise the Morning Star flag saying that a UN Peace Keeping Force will be arriving very soon. They are also making a list of everyone who is working for freedom forour people. Indonesia is planning to kill everyone on the list like they killed Theys Eluay. We believe that we one half million indigenous West Papuans are now outnumbered by Indonesian migrants. At the same time, militant Jihadists are getting ready in every corner of West Papua. The lives of all West Papuans and our leaders are now in great danger. The appeal Because of this alarming situation with more violence against my people very likely, I, Jonah Wenda, on behalf of the West Papuan People's National Coalition for Independence appeal to the UN Secretary-General and the entire international community to: * put pressure on the Indonesian Government to withdraw all its military power from West Papua before the end of this year; * take immediate action to mediate between the West Papuan people and the Indonesian Government to settle the conflict through peaceful negotiations under UN guidance and * let the West Papuan people decide their future through a fresh referendum. Independence is the only choice, no more, no less. Papua Merdeka!  --  God Bless West Papua! Jonah Wenda For the West Papuan People's National Coalition for Independence
