- Article written 1/Dec/2006; update on front page in part stating: Sadly, on this their celebration of independence, the people of West Papua stand alone. Aside from one comment piece published on The Guardian?s website yesterday (fittingly titled, "A forgotten cause"), not a single major British or American newspaper has reported on West Papua today. The decision not to cover the story must have been a conscious one, because the AFP sent a wire covering West Papuan celebrations in eastern Indonesia earlier today. The parliament of Vanatu paid respect to the 45th West Papuan Independence Day by way of a 1-minute silence this morning.
